THE BC RCMP said on Tuesday that it has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Burnaby where a male suffered serious injuries.
On Monday at approximately 9:30 p.m., Burnaby RCMP received a report of a domestic disturbance, where a lone male had barricaded himself in a residence reportedly with weapons.
Frontline officers set up containment on the home and requested the assistance of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (LMD IERT) and the Integrated Crisis Negation Team (ICNT).
Attempts to negotiate and deescalate the situation were unsuccessful, and shortly after 11:40 p.m. the male attempted to lower himself from a third story window. He was arrested at ground level with the assistance of a police dog and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The IIO BC is investigating police actions in the incident. For more information, visit its website at www.iiobc.ca.
