A hearing panel of the Law Society of B.C. has ordered that Surrey lawyer Narindar Pal Singh Kang, QC be suspended for two months, commencing on July 1.
Kang was charged with assault and mischief in relation to a domestic altercation, which led to an imposition of a common law peace bond imposed for six months. He reported the criminal charge to the Law Society and admitted that his actions constituted conduct unbecoming the profession.
In determining the disciplinary action, the panel considered the serious nature of intimate partner violence, as well as character reference letters provided by Kang, his acknowledgement of his actions and remorse, and the range of penalties in similar cases.
Written reasons for the hearing panel’s decision are available here.
