RIDGE Meadows RCMP are investigating a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred this past weekend in Maple Ridge and is reminding residents to take precautions on the roads.
On Saturday, December 13 at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of 224 Street and Lougheed Highway in Maple Ridge.
Officers attended the scene and learned that a white Mercedes-Benz sedan was travelling southbound on 224 Street when it made a left turn and struck a motorcycle that was travelling northbound.
The motorcyclist was transported by emergencies health services to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The motorcyclist remains in critical condition.
Roads in the area were closed for some time. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was also called out to assist.
Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has conduct of the file and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators are looking at all possible contributing factors in this incident, including possibly driver impairment.

This is the second serious or fatal motor vehicle collision in the past week in Ridge Meadows. As a result, Ridge Meadows RCMP is reminding residents to take extra precaution on the roadways. This includes adjusting your driving behaviour to the current road conditions and planning for a safe ride home if your evening involves alcohol or drugs.
“On Friday night, our Road Safety Target Team (RSTT) removed five impaired drivers from our roadways as part of our ongoing enforcement operations,” says Ridge Meadows RCMP Staff-Sgt. Chris Kelly. “That’s five impaired drivers too many, potentially putting themselves and other road users at real risk. Our officers will continue to be out proactively enforcing road safety, and the public can expect to see more of these road checks at various locations throughout the month.”
