Prime Minister Trudeau, Premier Eby and other leaders wish ‘Happy Holi’

PRIME Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday said in a statement: “Today, we join Hindu communities in Canada and around the world to celebrate Holi, also known as the Festival of Colours.

“Holi symbolizes renewal, forgiveness, and the triumph of good over evil. On this day, people gather on the streets, listen to festive music, and splash each other with brightly coloured water and powders. It is an occasion to come together with friends and family, and to celebrate each other.

“On this Holi, we are reminded of the diverse cultures that make Canada the country we love. Canadians of Hindu faith have made – and continue to make – immense contributions to our national identity. Today, and every day, we recognize the important role they play in building stronger and more vibrant communities across the country.

“On behalf of the Government of Canada, I wish a very colourful and joyous festival to all those celebrating.

“Holi Hai!”

PREMIER David Eby said: “Known as the Festival of Colours, Holi is being celebrated today by Hindu communities in British Columbia and around the world.

“Holi marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring, and honours the values of love, joy and renewal.

“On the eve of Holi, bonfires are lit to signify the burning away of negativity and evil. The following day, people celebrate by painting each other with gulal, a brightly coloured powder, and spend the evening gathering with friends and family to enjoy traditional foods, such as gujiya.

“An ancient festival filled with vibrant colours and community connection, Holi reminds us to celebrate the values of unity, diversity and equality.

“On behalf of the Government of British Columbia, I wish all those celebrating a peaceful and joyful Holi.

“Holi Hai!”
