THE Safe Surrey Coalition on Tuesday announced the grand opening of the new 84 Avenue road that they say will be “a momentous occasion that marks a significant milestone in our community’s development and safety enhancement efforts.”

Councillors Doug Elford and Mandeep Nagra, in collaboration with community partners, said the event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot of Nova Church at 8383 140 Street.

In a statement they said: “The grand opening of 84th Road is an opportunity to celebrate the collective efforts that have brought about positive change, progress, and safer streets in our city. This newly constructed road serves as a vital connection within our community, improving transportation accessibility and enhancing connectivity for residents and businesses alike.

“In addition to easing traffic congestion in the city, 84th Road plays a crucial role in enhancing road safety. It directly contributes to reducing accidents along the notorious 88th Avenue and King George Boulevard intersection, which has been identified as one of the most dangerous intersections in our city. The new road’s design and improved infrastructure will significantly improve traffic flow and provide a safer environment for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists in Newton, Chimney Heights, Fleetwood and Cedar Hills.

“During the event, Councillors Doug Elford and Mandeep Nagra will share their vision for a vibrant and inclusive Surrey, highlighting the importance of infrastructure development in fostering economic growth, enhancing connectivity, and ensuring the safety of our residents. They will also express their gratitude to the community members, local organizations, who have contributed to the realization of this project.”
