Suspect in violent assault on woman at New Westminster residence arrested

ON Friday at approximately 7 a.m., a New Westminster Police Department special constable was flagged down on Royal Avenue by a woman suffering numerous lacerations. The victim alleged that she had been violently assaulted inside a suite on Agnes Street.

BC Emergency Health Services paramedics transported the victim to a local area hospital. A large number of officers attended the building the victim identified on Agnes Street. Officers made a quick arrest and transported a suspect to NWPD cells.

“Understandably numerous residents were concerned to see such a large police presence in their neighbourhood,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We’d like to thank all the neighbours for their cooperation and patience while we arrested this suspect and collected evidence inside the suite.”

This incident is now being investigated by the New Westminster Police Department Major Crime Unit. The relationship between the suspect and victim is still being investigated by police, but this incident is isolated and there is no increased risk to the public. Any witnesses that haven’t yet spoken to police are asked to contact Major Crime Unit investigators at 604-529-2430.
