RIDGE Meadows RCMP were successful in apprehending an outstanding auto crime suspect with multiple warrants on Monday afternoon with the assistance of their Police Dog Services partners, following a day-time vehicle theft in Maple Ridge.
On July 28, at approximately 12:50 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a frantic call from a cab driver advising that their cab was stolen in the 11900-block of 200th Street. Officers learned that an altercation had occurred between the driver and an unidentified male, and as a result the male had stolen the cab. The driver sustained minor injuries in the process and was later treated at hospital.
Multiple officers immediately attended the scene, and the stolen cab and suspect were quickly located a short distance away. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody with the assistance of Police Dog Services before being transported to cells.
The 27-year-old male suspect had five outstanding warrants out of Vancouver. Ridge Meadows RCMP’s investigation is currently ongoing, and the suspect has since been released on conditions pending his next court appearance.
“We appreciate the work of our Police Dog Services partners in helping us apprehend this suspect,” says Constable Tisha Parsons. “We are thankful that no further injuries occurred and the actions of everyone involved led to a quick arrest and a successful conclusion.”
