PRIME Minister Justin Trudeau spoke on Wednesday with US President Donald Trump.
Trump expressed his condolences for the loss of life in the Ukraine International Airlines plane crash. The two leaders discussed the need for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this crash.
Trudeau and Trump exchanged views on the situation in Iraq and next steps with respect to Iran. They expressed shared concern for the safety of armed forces and diplomatic personnel serving in the region, and noted the limited impact of the Iranian attack on coalition forces on January 7. They discussed the need for de-escalation and emphasized the importance of continuing support for stability in Iraq and the ongoing fight against Daesh.
Trudeau and Trump agreed to stay in touch and to continue working alongside other members of the international community to promote security and stability in the region, according to a statement by the Prime Minister’s Office.
