FOLLOWING the arrest of one adult and one youth by Metro Vancouver Transit Police, charges have been approved in relation to a stabbing last July that occurred on a bus near Guildford Mall in Surrey, police announced on Wednesday.
On July 22, 2023, just before 3 p.m., a teenager and his girlfriend were involved in an altercation with two individuals at Guildford Mall following derogatory comments allegedly made to the girlfriend. After the brief interaction, the parties went their separate ways, with the teenager and his girlfriend boarding a bus at 104 Avenue and 152 Street.
However, soon after the bus departed, the two suspects boarded the same bus at the next stop. A second altercation took place, during which one of the suspects removed a knife from his pocket and stabbed the victim in the stomach before exiting onto 104 Avenue. The victim was transported to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
On September 26, 2023, after a three-month-long investigation, Ramadhan Ibrahim-Hussein, a 19 year-old Richmond resident, and a 17-year-old Surrey resident, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, were arrested without incident. Both suspects are known to police and charges of aggravated assault were approved for both Ibrahim-Hussein and the young offender.
“The suspects had their faces covered and were wearing nondescript clothing at the time of the alleged offence, making identification difficult. However, our detectives were more than up to the challenge. Evidence was painstakingly gathered and analyzed, and forensic methodologies utilized, resulting in the arrests. The investigation highlights that violent crime will never be tolerated on transit and all steps will be taken by Transit Police to hold offenders accountable for their actions,” said Constable Amanda Steed.
