Special prosecutor appointed in investigation into West Vancouver mayor’s municipal campaign

THE BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) announced on Monday that John M. Gordon has been appointed as a special prosecutor involving an investigation being conducted by the Port Moody Police Department into allegations of campaign finance irregularities in West Vancouver Mayor Mark Sager’s campaign for the municipal election held in October 2022.

The appointment of a special prosecutor is intended to avoid any potential for real or perceived improper influence in the administration of justice given the subject of the investigation is a public official in a senior position of authority.

Gordon’s mandate includes: to provide legal advice to the investigators as may be necessary, conduct any related charge assessment, and assume conduct of the prosecution if any charges are approved.

As the charge assessment process is ongoing, neither the BCPS nor the special prosecutor will be making any further comment or releasing additional information at this time.
