Aggressive passenger on inbound flight arrested at Vancouver International Airport

SHORTLY after 12:15 p.m. on January 13, Richmond RCMP were called to assist with an aggressive passenger on a flight inbound to Vancouver International Airport.

Richmond RCMP were advised that during the flight the passenger had allegedly assaulted someone travelling with them. Based on the individual’s behaviours, airline staff determined they posed a potential safety risk to staff and passengers and was restrained.

Richmond RCMP boarded the flight when it landed and after a lengthy attempt to de-escalate, ultimately apprehended the passenger under Section 28 of the Mental Health Act. While being escorted off the flight, the passenger was actively resisting by biting and spitting on RCMP officers. For the safety of the officers and the public, a spit hood was placed on the individual, police said.
