Veterans get free parking for a year in Vancouver’s pilot project

VANCOUVER City Council has approved a bylaw change that will give veterans free parking for one year as a pilot project.

Previously, veteran’s plate holders were allowed to park for free in the week leading up to Remembrance Day. Starting November 3, drivers with veterans’ licence plates can park for free at metered parking and EasyPark lots within Vancouver. Veterans will still need to obey posted time limits, but can park for free during the allowed time.

Staff will monitor the pilot project and report back to Council in the fall of 2021 to report back on uptake and in consultation with veteran’s serving organizations.

The proposed bylaw can be found here. Official, signed bylaws are typically posted within a few days of Council approving them.
